With many thanks to the management of the Jefferson Valley Mall, on the morning of Sunday, May 7th, 2023, members of Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS personnel from around the county came together to participate in an Active Shooter Drill.

Once thought to be an impossibility, these men and women now practice something that is all too commonplace in our lives.

Together they trained to have neighbors helping neighbors in case the crisis should come to our part of the world.

The victim-actors, with artfully applied gashes, gory slashes, and bleeding punctures, head to their spots in a make-believe mall shooting scenario that’s just been attacked by a gunman.

Everyone knows this is acting, but Mohegan Volunteer Ambulance Corps says it’s anything but play. Drills are important.

Rescue workers now must exercise their training. They evaluate injuries to determine who needs the fast ambulance to the hospital, who can wait longer, or who’s dead or beyond saving.

The participating Ambulance Corps, Fire Departments and Police Departments included:

Mohegan Volunteer Ambulance Corps

Mohegan Volunteer Fire Department

Yorktown Volunteer Ambulance Corps

Yorktown Volunteer Fire Department

Putnam Valley Volunteer Ambulance Corps

Peekskill Volunteer Ambulance Corps

Mahopac Falls Volunteer Ambulance Corps

Somers Volunteer Fire Department

New York State Troopers

Westchester County Police Department

Yorktown Police Department
